Gift Giving Tips to Support Someone with Cancer

A personal gift is a great way to show your support for a friend, co-worker or family member battling cancer. Many people struggle with what to give and can find the process of choosing an appropriate gift very challenging. We are here to assist you in finding just the right gift for that special person in your life.

Keep in mind that it’s not about the size of the gift – the act itself shows you’re there to support them along their journey. Even a small gesture can mean the world to someone facing a long fight ahead.

What to Consider When Selecting a Gift for a Cancer Patient

  1. How far along are they in their diagnosis?
Consider the stage the person is in. Were they recently diagnosed? Are they currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation? Are they in remission? We offer many Chemo Care items that provide comfort and inspiration for someone undergoing treatment. For those who have heard the words, “no evidence of disease” and are celebrating remission, choose something from our line of survivor products that will put a smile on their face!
  2. What is the personality of the gift recipient?
Is the person outgoing or more reserved? A Cancer Sucks T-Shirt is a great gift for someone who is outspoken and open about their cancer diagnosis. But not everyone feels this way, so consider something more inspirational and encouraging such as a piece of jewelry, a supportive book or a No One Fights Alone® tote bag or t-shirt. There is nothing more meaningful than simply letting the person know that you are there for them.
  3. How Will You Give the Gift?
If you don’t live or work near the gift recipient, shipping is likely your best option. Receiving a gift can be an emotional experience and giving it in person may not always be the best idea. Again, think of the recipient’s personality. Will he or she feel awkward opening a gift in front of you? In some cases, it’s best if the recipient can reach out to you after opening the gift so they aren’t taken by surprise. If you do mail the gift, make sure to attach a card to give it a more personal feel.
