May is Melanoma Awareness month.  

Cancer of the skin is by far the most common of all cancers, but Melanoma accounts for only about 1% of skin cancers.There will be an estimated 96,500 new cases of melanoma diagnosed this year and is about 2-to-1 more common in men than women.

Melanoma is more than 20 times more common in whites than African Americans. Overall, the lifetime risk of getting melanoma is about 2.6% for whites compared to 0.1% for black people and 0.58% in Hispanic populations.
