February is Gallbladder and Bile duct cancer awareness month

February is Gallbladder and Bile Duct Cancer Awareness Month. This month, Choose Hope is shining a light on Gallbladder Cancer and Bile Duct Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma). These are rare cancers, often challenging to detect early, which makes awareness and understanding incredibly important.

The Facts & Statistics – Gallbladder Cancer: Each year, approximately 12,410 Americans (5,160 men and 7,250 women) are estimated to be diagnosed with gallbladder cancer.

Demographics & Risk Factors: Gallbladder cancer is more common in women and older adults. Chronic inflammation of the gallbladder (often from gallstones) and obesity are key risk factors.

✨ Did You Know?
Due to their location, both gallbladder and bile duct cancers often show symptoms only when the cancer is advanced, making early detection difficult. Symptoms can be subtle and include jaundice, abdominal pain, and unexplained weight loss. Knowing your body and discussing any persistent changes with your doctor is always crucial! For those caring for a loved one with gallbladder or bile duct cancer, the journey can be particularly demanding due to the rarity and complexity of these diseases. Your dedication and support are invaluable. Remember to seek support for yourselves too – your well-being is essential for you and your loved one.
