Hughie’s Story

My Name is Hughie Mizell. I am a retired barber, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. My cancer story begins around 2005 with a rectal cancer diagnosis. I had surgery and the cancer was removed but due to complications, I spent 29 days in the hospital. I didn’t experience any new problems until 2012 when after a colonoscopy, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. While waiting for the colon cancer surgery, I experienced a heart attack and underwent double bypass surgery. After recovering from the bypass surgery, I was able to have the surgery to remove the colon cancer. Then, a few years later in 2015, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had surgery for that. The prostate cancer remained quiet until 2020 when it metastasized and I have been undergoing treatment for that ever since. It has been a challenging journey, but with lots of good doctors, help and prayers, I have been able to keep going through the years. I am so thankful!
