Unfortunately, I was heavily exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam, and have survived both prostate and sarcoma cancers. Surgery for the liposarcoma was done last August. They removed a nine pound tumor from around my left kidney! So it was time to get your “survivor” pins for both cancers and put them on my Vietnam Veteran hat!!!

When I got the good news that the cancer was gone, I asked my friend who also survived cancer if we could have a “secret handshake”. I found these pins, and we both wear it proudly.

I first found out about this sight just checking around to find out what my niece’s childhood brain cancer ribbon colors were. Being a cancer survivor (10+ years) myself gave me some motivation. I found the survivor pins and the the fact that some of the cost went to cancer research to hard to resist. I got my niece her pin (overwhelmed to find it is all gold!), I got one for myself and one for a work colleague who is a survivor. Then I started thinking: I know several people who I work with that have had cancer. Why not get them a ribbon pin? So I sent out an email to coworkers. In a high school with about 130 teachers, staff and support people, we had 8 who are survivors, two of whom are currently being treated, but come to work daily except for chemo days. We have two people who have relatives (a young son to one and my niece) who are survivors. I got them all ribbon pins, including a former student who student taught last year.
We have eight in the building and three either relatives or former students who are survivors. We also have several current or recently graduated students who are survivors. I intend to get them ribbon pins also.
That’s a lot of people in a fairly small school. I figure why not give some money to support research and at the same time "choose hope" for those I know.
I am quite proud to be a 10+ years survivor. And I think my project gave an uplift to my friends at work. Every one of them pinned it on and wears it daily.
It is not what you say that makes a difference, it is what you do, no matter how small it seems.

I know I’m not really considered a “Survivor” yet, but I needed this pin to make me remember that I need to be. I was diagnosed with Serous cancer and had surgery on the 21st of October. I truly recognize that my battle was a drop in the bucket compared to the hell that so many must endure for their cure. I’m impressed with the quality of this ribbon pin – it’s very solid! I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting for the price (which I didn’t think was expensive at all) but this pin is strong and sturdy with a great post and clasp. This prostate cancer survivor pin is a great value for only $4.00. It is well made and very good quality. The silver side of the ribbon is quite shiny, so the word “survivor” does not show up as well as it might if it were on a buffed matte finish instead. Very worth while and a good price.

I purchased a Cancer Survivor Ribbon Pin for Head and Neck Cancer having had recent oral cancer (tongue cancer). I felt I wanted to ‘advertise’ that I was a survivor and maybe bring hope to others and bring awareness of oral cancer as it is not so commonly known.
